I just got a 02 Z with 27000mi, but when the engine idles i can hear a whistleing type of noise coming from the engine. When i accelerate the you cant hear it anymore, but when you let go and almost back to idle the nosie gets a bit louder, then back to a single tone. No codes or anything, just wanted to check if its normal, or not.

That's funny because i just bought a 03 z06 with 26k miles an it does the same thing. I was wondering if it was in the drivetrain, maybe the clutch or the shifter. I'm a vette rookie so if my guesses sound silly, don't hate me.

I've heard somewhere that there is a passageway in the lower part of the LS6 intake manifold that can cause this. Don't have any other information about it though.
This is funny. I just installed an LS6 intake on my 98 and it whistles a bit driving at lower RPM's. I was also wondering what it is and if it's a problem. I don't get any codes and the car runs as normal.
I did a search on z06vette.com and it seams to be some what normal since many people have it and no one sugested it caused any problems, i also read it gets worst when you install an air intake.
Until it causes a problem i am just going to have to live with it.
The cure is driveing at high rpms.
thanks for the info. I have the hurricane intake, it seems like you can really hear the air flow since I installed the ls6 intake manifold. I'd like to get rid of the whistling though, it's quite annoying.

Whistle is characteristic. Has no effect on the behavior or performance of the car. Both my 01 and 02 had a whister under certain conditions and both ran very well. J-Rod has a video posted of a 6600 launch, you can hear the whistle at idle.
