Default Firebird 3.8 head removal

I know this is a C5 forum but I also know there are a lot of mechanics on here so I figure I'll ask. I have a girlfriend with a 96 Firebird with a 3.8 that has a blown head gasket. I like her enough to do the job but not enough to pay for it . I would like a step by step but would live with just some advise from someone who has done heads on a firbird with a 3.8 in situ.

Thanks guys!

I also own a V6 Camaro & recently asked a mechanic how tuff it was to remove the heads. He said its possible but very difficult,& its almost better to remove the engine to make it easier. For more info go on www.firebirdv6.com/

its a no brainer.
same as any other car.
camaro/firebirdv6.com
or fullthrottlev6.com can be your friend

remove upper and lower intakes.
remove ex mani
remove rockers, pr's
remove head.
theres some more to do but its self explanitory(sp?).
just watch for the ground strap on the rear/back side of the dr side head.

if its never been done on the car it may still have the stock factory lifting brackets....the one on the pass side is a pita...remove it, dont put it back on.
send me your email and i'll copy u some info. pdf file..

today im starting on more mods on my kids 02 v6 maro. so i'll be pulling the heads, cam etc...
but i have it down to a science....can have the heads off in 75-90min..
good luck
peace,

You are the man! I suspected it could be done with the right tools pretty quickly. My email is forums at athometech.com. I hope to get this thing done soon so I can have my truck back!

Take care,

The engines sits so far back up under the cowl in those Firebirds they are a real pain to work on. Real hard to get to anything on them. You might want to look around, it may be a lot easier to find another girlfriend.

Good luck

its not that bad...typical fbody.
once u get the coil pack off you'll see..plenty of room to work.

no worse than spark plug 7 & 8 on our c5s.
