I dont want the switch for the cutout to be powered when the key is off. I could find a wire under the dash just hoped I could find one by the console.
I guess you realize that what ever wire you tap into, and associated systems that run off that wire, will all go down if you have a motor that shorts out. Choose your wire carefully, or fuse the circuit.
The ignition switch is probably the closest switched power with enough current to safely run the motors. I bet you may have as much a 5 amps for the two motors when they hit the stops at the end of their travel. The lighter power is a good full time source, they are normally designed for at least 10 amps.
It is always good to fuse any powered wires you add in the car, specially if you are hooking to a high current source like the ignition switch. You can pick up an inline fuse holder at any Radio Shack for $3.00, simply insert it in between the wire you tap into and the power wire you are adding. Good safe insurance, you don't want something to short and burn the car down when the wire catches on fire! And with cutouts, there is a lot to go wrong down there by the hot exhaust!
I used the wire for the cig lighter. It's pretty thick gauge and has enough amperage. Plus, if it blows, it's not gonna take out anything else important with it.
What brand cutouts did you get anyway? I have McCleod, they come with in-line fuses in the wiring already, and they are the cheapest (at least, in actual monetary value, not necessarily workmanship-wise) ones you can buy!

Dope
Dope, do you have any soundclips when opened and closed.
