My friend has a 2000 and wants me to add some type of air box to his car. He dosen't want to cut anything if possible. I saw a add in Vette for a product from Ram It. It was ducted thru both fog light openings then up to the intake. Anyone use this? It looks nice in the pics but they say 30hp or something crazy like that  Also are there any cheap or free mods to do to a C5 like on the C4 cars? He has a Corsa but other than that the car is stock and ran a best of 13.3 on runflats. I'd like to get him in the 12's. Thanks for any info
Rich, the filter he wants is the Blackwing, sometimes refered to as Donaldson, Air Force & others. Complete bolt own, no cutting! Price wise about $250- new or check C5 parts on the Forum for a used one. As far as the free mods, while he is installing the Blackwing the MAF will be off the car and he can "carefully" removed the screen inside it. According to Doug Rippie removing the screen is good for 7 ponies plus plan on another 15-20 RWHP for the Blackwing. Removing the MAF screen has sometimes been a controversy here on the Forum regarding "surging" but I have mine out on my 00 and have had no problems. Plus the new 02 Z's have had the screen removed from the factory!! Paul.
I'm probably going to go the Blackwing route and was wondering about removing the MAF screen too. If removed properely can it be reinstalled again if problems develope? You mean a Blackwing and MAF screen removed is good for close to 20 HP?
Driven normaly is there any negative impact on fuel mileage? I seldom "get on it" but if there is no penality when driven easliy this seems like the best way to go. I undersatnd that the car's PCM will need to go through a "RE-LEARN" process before the full impact of these mods takes place. I can't find the procedure out here - help?
There is a "new" intake/filter on the market that has ducts going to the fog light openings.. Not sure who makes it, but there's been some other recent posts about it. Try doing some searches of other recent topics.
I like my Vortex, but it requires cutting the shroud...
Others like Donaldson, that I don't believe requires any cutting.
AFVETTE, you will damage the screen taking it out and will not be able to reuse it. After a airbox mod, 50% of the people do the relearn and the other 50% let the car relearn it self probally within a hours drive. I believe the Blackwing with screen removal is a minimum 20 RWHP gain but do not have dyno numbers myself. Another benifit of the Blackwing is it has a built in sensor to help you determine when it needs cleaning, something I did not see on the Xtreme unit. Paul.
It is made by Vararam. They have a ad in Vette or Corvette Fever. They published a we site www.vararam.com but it has been under construction for a month now.
The ones that requre you to cut the shroud are the best...by far. Vortex, Proflow, Donaldson w/cover, Hallteck Trick. The Shroud is easy to cut, and you can buy and extra, should you want to go back to stock, for $30 from Ken Fithner.
