I hit the wrong button on my fob, the security went off, I shut it off, but, now when I try to start the car the security light on the instrument panel stays on and will not let the car start, all the other electrical components work ie: windows, lights, radio, etc.
this has never happened to me and i am no expert at all on this system, but you might try disconnecting the battery for a little while (15 min.) and see if something resets while you wait for someone with more experiance with this stuff to post up. worth a shot anyway.
I shouldn't be responding because there are folks out there who really know what the problem is and how to fix it.
All I can tell you is on some of my other cars to disarm the factory alarm you would take your key and either open the passenger or drivers side with it and that was a reset.
One of us has to check the manual. Since your the one in lockdown right now... you got nothing better to do. So let us know what you find out...
I'm betting it's gonna be your ignition key held somewhere for 5 seconds.
I found a DIC code, it is C1255 which is a ECU Malfunction,
C1255 is an EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) fault. This module controls ABS, Traction Control and Active Handling. It's probably a history code and definitely not related to your problem since it would only disable the ABS system and not prevent you from starting the car.
Once clarification. Is the Security Light OFF when you unlock the doors and get in, and then only goes ON after you put the key in the ignition? And is it Steady or Flashing. To be sure what it does, get in the car and close the door, put the key in the ignition and turn to ON. From your description the Security Light is ON. With the doors still closed, turn the ignition OFF and pull the key out . The light should go off. If it doesn't then the problem is likely with your ignition switch.
The manual is not clear, but if the light is ON it seems like the BCM is not seeing the Pass Key code or that the key is in the ignition (there's a switch to detect that).
This isn't much help, but you need to perform some detailed diagnostics with a Tech tool to isolate where the problem is.
thanks for the reply, yes, when in the car with the doors closed and key in the on position the security light stays on, no flashing, when I unlock the doors and get in the light is flashing then but, as I said when key is in on position the light stays on, I will get it to the dealer and have them repair it, thanks again for your time.
is your car a manual transmission? the switch at the bottom of the clutch pedal could be out. try to use a cotter pin to bridge the circuit and see if it starts.
This happened to me after I ate some junk and inadvertently got some frosting on the key (VATS pellet). Clean the key, then douse it with alcohol, insert it in and out of the ignition switch several times and then reclean the key. Hopefully that'll do it for you.

...when it's determined what the issue was, will you please let us know?
I'm not sure on VATS, but I think it has to be deleted via a computer flash. I think there have been some who've bypassed the VATS with a switching device.
BTW, my first beloved Harley was a '77 FXS which I owned for 11 years. Gotta love those old Shovel motors...
