Recently I purchased a 98 coupe and notice a passenger side seat belt that sticks in the rear storage compartment. This week my passenger side seat belt failed to release and upon inspecting the retractor I cannot find any issues. Belt is not twisted or frayed. Is there a problem with C5 seat belts and does anyone sell replacements and how much does a third replacement cost?
There were two recalls on seat belts. One was back in 97 the other was this year. Never really knew what the 97 recall did but as you say it was done on my car years ago. The 2001 recall puts a small insert into the mechanism that keeps the belt from jamming when it retracts. Without the inserts if the belt is pulled out all the way and goes into cinch mode then allowed to retract with a slight bend in the belt it will jam in the retractor and you will not be able to pull it out since it is in cinch mode. The inserts make the belt path much narrower and force the belt to straighten out before it goes into the retractor.

I have noticed that the passenger one does have this small piece of plastic. I called GM and they said there is no recall on my vette. Does anyone know were to but replacements or is GM the only game in town?
