this might be a hard one to figure but here goes- I have a 99 vert with an LS6 with dart 205s, MTI R1 cam, kooks headers aftermarket air bridge 3.73 gears and 3000 protorque. I had it tuned right after I put it in and it has been perfect. About a month ago I drove to a store and when I got back in it would start but die right away. I called the tuner and he said to check that the tps and throttle body servo were connected ok. every time i tried to start it it would idle about 300rpm and die. I finally got it running by giving it about 3\4 throttle and getting it up to about 5000 rpm and held it there for a few seconds then i slowly brought the RPMs down till it finally idled. Since then it has done this about 6 times. I have checked and it has not thrown any codes. Im not sure what to try next but the only way i have been able to get it running when this happens is to almost floor it when I first get it going. And I know its drive by wire so if I dont get the rpms up soon enough when this happens then it will die anyway and feels completely disconnected from the engine. It has done this now when first starting it up and also now when Im driving down the road.Anyone have any ideas? thanks Normand
but have you checked the fuel filter? Maybe the engine is starved for gas? Just a thought.... Sometimes the simplest things can be the easiest fix.....
would that get better after I got it running? Just wondering myself but would the problem go away for lets say 200 miles then come back like it is? would it always run like crap if the filters clogged a bit?
Please keep in mind I am no way tech proficient... But I would think its a possibility.... Especially if you got some really cruddy gas.... I usually change my filter I think about every 10-15K... Or ever year or year and a half.... My c5 is a garage queen right now.... I dunno it might be worth taking over to the dealership or some compitent c5 mechanic and let him check it out... I change my oil and rotate my own tires but anything other than that I am strictly a novice....
also when it is not doing this occasional problem it runs strong right up to the 6800 shift and still ran 118 mph in 92 degree weather at the track a few weeks ago. Im thinking maybe TPS too but will a tech at chevy have to check it or is there another way? My tuner is 230 miles away thanks
Check the coolant sensor on the side of the head. I had a bad connector that caused erratic temp readings. Car would stall, surge and lug when the connection would move around.
I've seen two that the MAF had come apart from the air bridge and they ran like that. So if you haven't already, check that. If thats not it check the MAF sensor to se if it is dirty. Have you cleaned and reoiled your air filter?
