Default grinding issues

I have a problem when putting the gear into reverse, it grinds and then pops out of gear as I start to accelerate. I have tried putting it in frist gear and then into reverse but still no luck. Also I have a problem shifting into 5th gear from 4th. when I'm about 5700 or 5800 rpm in 4th gear and try to shift into 5th I can not put it into 5th gear and it sounds like it grinds as I try to put into 5th. All other gears work fine and when crusing around the city putting it into 5th from 4th is not a problem at all. the car is an 02 if it makes a difference. any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

I have exactly the same prbolems with the additon that I cannot make the 5-6 downshift without double clutching. My stealership tells me it is bad synchronizers in the trany.

I thought I read a previous post somewhere that said the cause could also be a bent shift fork. They were made of alum and when they got bent they didnt allow the gears to mesh all the way and over time the results were what you are going thru. I dont remember how far back the post was tho but maybe the archives have something. A few have said things improve by changing the gearbox oil to a synthetic like red line or amsol. Maybe that might help some. Good luck
