Default full exhaust on..now WTF?!

I got the lg pro long tube headers with off road pipes leading to a corsa indy car cat back...Now my car sounds like ****.. I LOVE loud exhausts...Now my car actually pops and backfires maybe? I know about the motorboat sound when ya let off the gas but it pops with a loud bang when dethrottling....Also the car sounds real good under part throttle, but hen i press the go pedal, it sounds like open headers, not crisp at all..Is this normal? I changed to colder plugs b/c Im ordering a blower soon, did this cause the problem?

I had the Indy's on my car with LT's but with Hi-flow cats. I didn't get a lot of popping and the car screamed at you WOT. It actually sounded like an Indy car and like is was revving about 8k. It was a little too loud and I was short shifting all the time to keep it quiet. Tried the Zo6 Ti's for a while but I missed my loud pedal. Now I'm running GHL's w/ 6in cans and it's perfect.

same here, except I haven't switch from the Indy's yet. They sound perfect in the HPDE's on the track, but they are too loud with open cats on the street.

Sounds like classic exhaust leak. Start checking your connections. It's probably not really a backfire(caused by timing problem) it's air gettng sucked into a leak and igniting in the pipe. Very common. I used to used a lit cigarette and hold it by the exhaust connection points while someone held the accelerator at an elevated rpm. The smoke will be drawn into a leak.

Another good tip is to run cats. Otherwise it sounds like a hack-job Mustang who gutted his converters.

FWW I've read some posts, and had one very experienced installer tell me that the slip-fit connections used by LG make that system prone to exhaust leaks.

Do you have an x pipe or the stock h pipe? That deceleration poppin (common in f body y pipes) happens without the x pipe with headers/exhaust/cats(less).

WTF.... no... then you could never get the headers out to work on the car.

This was my biggest reason staying w/ the Kooks they use a flange type design and it doesn't leak.

My LGs don't leak at all, and the popping with an O/R X pipe is normal. However, if it's loud like a backfire, you've got a leak, or reversed O2s. The latter should make the car run rough, as well. The bandclamps that come with the headers are very easy to work with, and leak-free for over 3 years. I did change out from Borla Stingers, to a Magnaflow catback, because of excessive noise.

When I added B&B Bullets, there was a lot of pop and gurgle on Decel (factory H pipe) and when i added the Dynatech SupermaXX Headers (pictured above) i was afraid i'd get TONS more - but the x-pipe does a really good job of equalizing the pressure and really reduces the pop... now it only happens a little, and usually when it's cold.

I will add however, a good tune can clear up some of your problem. I read that certain tables can have a large effect on your car during decel.

I hve TPIS Headers with a Slip Fit, Gutted Cats and an X pipe with Corsa Indys..

Yes it's loud and as someone said before.. The Xpipe makes it sound like a indy car reving to 8000 rpms..

I do get burble on decel.. Also if I did into the pedal hard and then lift.... I bbbbbdddddddddddddddddddddd BANG!!! Scares the **** out of the drivers behind me..

I am sure it's a leak at the slip fit.. Caus I can see soot there.. I could care less..

Default Exhaust leak

A good way to find where you have a leak in your exhaust is, get the car up on a rack at a repair shop, start the engine and get an old blanket or a big cover, bunch it up and hold it over the ends of the exhaust pipes, it will hiss very loud wherever there is a leak in the system.
