I would like to remove my battery to check for any leaks. Will disconnecting battery erase all memories. seat pos., radio presets, also i've seen mentioned some type of matt placed under better, any info appreciated.

RADIO SHACK and other sources sell a temporary 9v battery powered device that you plug into your cigarette lighter. It'll maintain the memory of your accessories for a short time period while you remove the battery.
I'm not sure of a source for the battery mat...do an internet search under "battery mat" and you should find sources...

I had my battery disconnected for several hours while I installed my HID headlamps (along with a new Optima Redtop battery).

When I completed the job, I had NO major issues of any kind (engine fired right up, ran fine, no DIC codes, no fault lights, all gauges read normally, no loss of seat memory settings, and all radio presets intact); however, I did notice that the clock reading on the factory head unit was off by about 2-3 hours

Are you looking for one of these? Acid Neutralizing Battery Mat...

The Battery Mat ® is made of super absorbent polypropylene needle punch felt, with one side heat treated to give it additional strength. This fabric is slowly pressure-treated at high temperatures with a unique, all-natural, acid neutralizing formula, and then cured in ovens. Finally, the fabric is dipped in a latex sealant mixture, again in ovens, and screen printed.

This one's available for about $4 http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ACC-BATMAT
I believe some of our Forum vendors may carry them.

I purchased a battery matt and attempted to install it in my '00 Coupe, and found that I could not get the lower lip of the battery under the locking clip on the rear of the battery storage compartment. I ended up removing the matt, and putting the battery back in, same as factory installation.
