Default Exhaust flange/pipe seperation

I noticed my right tailpipe was hanging a few inches lower than my left. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the flange has seperated from the exhaust pipe(right below where the passanger seat is).

Is having the flange re-welded to the exhaust pipe going to be a costly repair?

here's what it looks like:

and just for fun, here is a neat C5/C6 body comparison:

Common problem for several years. I think GM's OEM supplier was Arvin for several years and for several years there many a C5 with this very problem. Defective welds at the rear flange of the center section (H pipe) of the exhaust.
It is typically not a big expense at all to have it re-welded. In fact, many exhaust shops around the country see this a lot, and have re-welded many of these.

thanks guys...one more question:

should they seperate the 2 flanges, then weld the flange to the exhaust pipe , or leave the 2 flanges attached(as-is), and weld? I am worried tha if they do not seperate the 2 flanges, they might accidently spot weld the bolts which would hamper future exhaust modifications...????? It has been my experiance that many muffler shops do the least amount of work necessary to get the job done...

Probably more work than necessary (along with potentially higher price) to have to seperate the two. The advantage to leaving one side snugged up seems to be that the whole assembly is better braced; kinda like a "jig", ensuring that the re-weld will be more likely to put the flange in the exact correct position when welded. Of course they could always "tack" it in place them seperate for final full welding. Your call.

Just make sure they level up the tailpipes before welding. Had mine done for $30 at a local muffler shop. They did not separate before welding.
