Ok I have a 01 auto with the 2.73 and really need to upgrade what would you upgrade to the 3.42 or the 3.73's and why??? I do a lot of highway driving but I am looking for that red light launch where you really feel it in the seat of the pants. Which should I go with.

I'm keeping the 2.73 and getting a yank ss3200 stall. Just the stall will launch better/have a faster 60ft time than just the gears. And once it locks up, you'll still have 2.73 gears for highway cruising and top speed. Basically, best of both worlds. Ask around the automatic tranny forum at ls1tech.com. Converters at least this big usually take off .5 in the 1/4mile, gears only maybe .2 in most peoples results.

If you dont mind the crappy gas mileage on the HWY then go with the 3:73. It will definately help your 60's and 1/4 mile times. Like what was said before, if you also get a vigalante converter and a drag radial put on the car, you will gain an easy .5 off your 1/4 mile time.

3.73 and a SS3600 T/C Mileage will drop to about 23mpg on the highway. I love my 01 with this set-up and could care less about the couple mpg I lost. This car is for enjoyment, not fuel conservation.
I love my 3.73s and vig 3200 t/c. I turn about 2500 rpm at 75mph very streetable. Its a whole new car now From a standing start just hit the gas and burn rubber and get sideways So much more fun to drive now
Unless you intend to spend a lot of time at the strip, go with the 3:42s and a hi-stall convertor. You will lose a lot more than an couple of miles per gallon, especially with the 3:73s. I went from 31 to 26 with just 3:42s and would probably go a couple more down with the 3:73s. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I really dont plan on spending much time at the track at all, just a little more pick up on the street....And im sure I can find the 3.42 for alot better price than the 3.73, and save the money for the stall converter. Thanks for all the info.
YOU are looking for the same thing I was - I put in a Yank SS 3200 stall and an ECS 3.73 rear end - talk about SEAT of the PANTS feel - love it, and I plan on mine being a highway car also
to do it over, I'd even seriously consider a Yank SS3600 stall converter - In the future I might be sorry I didn't go w/ the SS3600 - I'm not sure abt the SS4000 - that might be TOO much of a stall converter
SO, for SOTP feel, go w/ the 3.73's and a torque converter of some kind - you won't be disappointed!! !!
Around town 3.73. If you spend much time over 60mph, the 3.45 may be a better choice with the lower entry fee. If you are mostly a city driver with traffic lights, you would love the 3.73. Either one is a BIG jump over the 2.73.
I'd stick with the 3.42's since you'll be highway driving. going from 2.73 to 3.73 (1.00 dif) is a huge jump, I went from 3.42 to 4.10 (.68 dif) and I wish i had went for the 3.90. but to play devils advocate, these 4.10 are bad@$$. just not as friendly for daily driving.
