After removing the six perimeter bolts inside the gas door and the single bolt that connects the door hinge bracket, it will not slide out. It binds against the wall where the overflow drain it located. cannot get it past the filler neck. What am I doing wrong here, I'm trying to install a new aluminum polished gas cap and can't get the orginal door off.
If you are trying to remove just the door, you should only have to remove the two screws holding it to the quarter panel, and the one bolt mounting the hinge to the inner body panel.
You should not even have to remove the other bolts that hold the outer ring to the fuel pocket.
If you still cannot work it out, you might try removing the screws that connect the pocket to the filler neck to see if that gives you more room.
Thanks for your response. If anyone ever attempts this you will need a pair of needle nose pliars to pull the tension off of the hinge in order to get it past the gas cap and out of the pocket filler neck. Mission accomplished.
