Default PIAA Headlight Bulb Swap?

Has anyone used the PIAA 9005 ( HB3 ) XTREME WHITE PLUS and the PIAA 9006 ( HB4 ) XTREME WHITE PLUS? Are they worth it? Do I need to re-wire anything or is this a straight up swap? thanks for any info.

I did it. I like it. I can see better.

No cutting it fits to the original plug.

You can modify the PIAA 9005s to fit in the low beams,it simple. They are the cheep route to HID like lights, very close IMO since I was driving neck to neck with a BMW with HIDs,on I94 a time ago.

I am running the Toshiba 9011 HIR bulbs for my low beams, I really like the improvement for the money. You might want to take a look into them before you buy.

OK all you have to do to convert the 9005 to fit is file or better yet take a soldering iron & melt down the 2 ribs inside the female terminal of the bulbs. Then cut the middle tab on the rim of the light .Just do it by compairing them to 9006's.Very simple & very effective way to much brighter lighting. This is what Ford used in Lincoln Marks, two sets of 9005s before they went to HIDs for latter models.

Yes fellow hoosier its probably not as good as real HIDs ,but like I said ,I was next to a car that had them & they appeared to be pretty close in intensity from my point of vision.Of course I was not in the car that had HIDs.What bulb dud you do this 9005 mod ,Silverstars,or were they PIAA Xtreme White Plus?

From the front I'd guess they might appear similar (color and glare), but they aren't.
I resisted HID's forever, doing no-names, then uncoated no names, then silverstars, then PIAA. I wish I would have just saved my $$ and went HID from the get-go. The PIAA and Silverstars were mild improvements (the others were worse than stock), but the effect was very weak vs HID's. Of the 4 I'd say silverstars since they were cheaper than PIAA. Do seriously consider HID's, you'll be happier in the end.

Hope that helps.

Has anyone tried these lights from Ecklers? Thet look like they do not stick out very much like some headlight conversions. Are they much brighter then regular lights and how close to real HID's are they?

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1381

Thanks,

Clayton from Las Vegas

You could have HID's for that price.

Those are still non-HID with similar wattage to stock and maybe better lensing. I would estimate they'll be slightly better at best.

I believe TByrne has true projector HID setups for ~$900 now.

Yes HIDs are great but the $ factor is way out of wack with what you can do with the same $ for perfomance mods like H/C & porting.I wish I knew where you could get a good HID sys for 500$ or there abouts ,then I'd get them!

Some places like blinglights.com have true HID 9006 kits that are in the sub $500 range. You may have to adjust things to counter glare issues since the stock lens isn't really designed for them. NHTSA doesn't approve of that mod, but it'll be bright.

I did it too. Direct replacement. The light is brighter and whiter. Nowhere near the intensity of halogens, but better yes.

I have T84's now too, but the big issue is the bulbs. I will agree the glass lens is an improvement.
