As part of a MAJOR brake overhaul on my 99 coupe, I ordered new ZO6 calipers from Chevrolet. My question is: Will these arrive with the new bolts needed to mount it to the caliper bracket??
My GM service manual says that anytime you remove, or even loosen, these bolts, they should be replaced with new!
IS this necessary, or is GM just trying to sell parts??
I dont think the bolts comes with the caliper but if you bought GM brake pads 2 bolts are included (caliper to bracket bolts). However it is not necessary to replace the bolts.
new caliper bolts are not necesary. GM changes them because they don't want to spend the time to clean them...Wire brush them well and re use them
Use the red semi- permanent on the bracket bolts and the blue medium strength on the caliper bolts.
A BIG thanks! You've both just saved me from another day of futile parts hunting!! Thanks for mentioning the "red" & "blue" locktite applications, I just thought of that this morning while laying in bed.

I just put new drilled/slotted rotors / pads on and reused the bolts. vettdvr
I just removed, cleaned, rebuilt and painted my '99 FRC's calipers. I rebuilt each caliper using GM's caliper rebuilding kits (About $60.00 from gmPartsdirect for all four). The kits came with new seals, dust shields, and new caliper bolts. Since you're getting new calipers, just clean the threads (I usually use a die) on the old bolts and use non-permanent Lock Tite on the threads to hold them fast. Torque to specifications. Should be perfect. Also I put in Speed Bleeders, what a pleasure to have those when bleeding the brakes. If you get them, torque them to specs and go 1/4 turn beyond. Two of mine leaked a little at torque spec. Tightening them a little more cured that. Good Luck!
I was told by afriend who is a GM tech that they tell you to replace the bolts because they come with locking sealer on the threads and by you buying new bolts they reduce their liabilty since you should use some locking compound on the threads. Just use loc-tite and you're good to go.

I'm painting my front rotors right now and know what the bracket bolts are, but what are the caliper bolts? My '97 calipers have greased pins that do have a hex head on them, but I don't see any threads. They also have a dust seal, is that what you're talking about??
There are 2 sets of bolts. Small ones which hold calipers together and Large ones which hold the calipers ONTO the Steering knuckle. If you are removing the calipers to get the rotors off you need to remove the LARGE bolts. I did this and painted my calipers red using the Duplicolor paint for about $15.00 and a little white paint on the CORVETTE logo.
Just CLEAN the bolts and use RED Locktite on Both the Large and Small bolts. If using new GM Semi-metallic pads you get a new Small bolt as you only need to remove one bolt to change the pads. Checked around and out of 25 dealers only ONE of them had Large bolts in stock at $6 each. That comes to $48.00 plus tax versus $2 or $3 for some red Locktite. Don't get taken. Reuse the bolts. PS the Large bolts are on with 125 ft lbs of torque, a b##l buster to remove but use a breaker bar and make sure are going COUNTERCLOCKWISE on each one.
Z06 calipers are the SAME as regular ones just that they are painted RED. The if you clean your existing ones with brake cleaner and paint them you DO NOT EVEN HAVE TO REMOVE THE BRAKE LINES. Just push the pistons back, paint em , wait 24 hours for the paint to really harden and then reinstall new pads.
Good Luck BIGHANK

My '97 calipers must be different. I took out the 'big' bolts with a breaker bar which allowed me to remove the caliper and rotor. I slipped the caliper and hanger off the rotor and then the caliper slid off the hanger along the greased pins that I mentioned. The pads popped right out only being held in place with spring clips.
