Default Liquid or Air intercooler?

Looking to try and free up some space in front of coupe so I can install a straighter pipe for my notrous nozzle. I was thinking of scraping my Vortech standard intercooler, which is plumbed for a 3/4 inch coolant line in in it's place, installing a 4 inch thick 30" x 15" air intercooler with 3" outlets. I am primarily wanting to move things around similar to the routing of Andy's (A&A) setup. I am planing to cover the top of the engine compartment from the radiator mounting cap to the upper front nose screws and remove the factory filler duct that is currently in place. The plan is to have air enter from it's normal location(air dam) and pass through the new intercooler and then radiator. By removing the factory filler panel, I would have enough room to place my air intake filters and intercooler under this panel. similar to Andy's design. Would this work as well or should I move the liquid intercooler to the area below the new panel and by doing so would this interuption of airflow cause a engine overheat issue? Thanks. Look at my photos link and you can see how it is currently set up. I need to get rid of the 90 elbow at the throttle body and go with a aluminum pipe, that will give me at least 6 inches to put the nitrous nozzle in.
