Default car died

This is the 2nd time it's happened for no reason...

sorry i haven't pulled codes yet and will do tonight... but heres what happened.

The other day i'm coming home from drill.. I'm just casually driving... didn't get on it once.. just nice smooth easy shifting, tops off, just enjoying my ride...as i approach a red light i insert the clutch and apply the brake and then i hear a ding from the dash... REDUCE ENGINE POWER... i noticed the car is trying to shut down so i gave it some gas to see if i couldn't get a guage to stand out... it was too late car died... so i try to start it.. and it wouldn't start... finally i wait a min and try again and it starts up no big deal no prompts no studder just drives off..

Then yesterday i'm coming home and the same thign happens... This time i came from a higher speed to stop... i was about to make a rolling stop and when i let the clutch out, and noticed i had next to no power... Again the message REDUCE ENGINE POWER came up... shut down and tried starting it and still the same problem.. hit the flasher, pulled the key waited a 30secs and tried it again and Vaooooooooooooom power restored as if it never happened...

I put money on bad ground wires somewhere. If you look at the top of this forum there is a sticky by Bill Curlee i think, he explains how to check your grounds

Mine kinda did the same thing and it was the steering lock recall problem, they said it needed adjusting, just a thought, good luck

Do a search on TAC module. This is a common problem on early cars. It is located in passenger fenderwell beside the PCM.

Don't forget to pull the codes first. This problem should set very specific ones.

This is a total WAG but you mention that your tune may be off a bit. You say this happens when you hit the brakes which could be a vacuum problem or the possibility that when you hit the brakes to slow to a stop your idle RPM is dipping too low and causing the codes to be set.
