This is a problem that only occurs sometimes and I've been unable to tell exactly where on the top it's coming from. I've tried tightening everything, greasing it up, etc... Any ideas? It drives me crazy. Any time I go over a speed bump, rough surface, anything that causes the body to flex I hear it. :mad

It's most likely the latches. Take off your top and and look at the sliver plate on the latches, usually they're loose and this causes them to make noise. If you look at the latches from the side you should see a gap between the sivler plate and the latch underneath, if there's a gap and/or some play in it, it's your culprit. If so, replace the latches.

I had exactly the same problem on my '99. I went to the dealer several times to fix; however, nothing seemed to work. Finally, I isolated the surfaces of the latch contact points with a business card and voila, no more creaking. I know this is not the best fix, but it works and after awhile I forgot about my makeshift solution...

Remove the top and tighten the front left and right latch brackets. These are the brackets mounted to the windsield pillar behind the center garnish molding. You can get a 10mm wrench behind the garnish molding to tighten the 4 bolts. You will find that you can get a least 1 full turn on them...

I also have had the same problem. It turned out to be the small metal plate that covers the little roller on the top frame rail of the windshield where your top secures in. You can tap it with your finger and know it's loose. It seems to just be clamped in place and had become loose. I tried to tighten it with some pliers but eventually just glued it down. Use some really good 3M stuff...

I hate to post anything after C5 tech... I know his answers are always right on the money.. I am always amazed at how a guy.. or guys in our case.. Our two resident techs post so much useful information.. here.considering this is not a hobby for them.. it's their job.. Thanks you guys for just being here..
OK that being said..I have used Dielectric Lube on areas that make noise..
A tube can be bought at any parts store.. I use it on my wifes sun roof gasket.. it's good stuff..
