For about three bucks you can get some longer bolts and spacers from Home Depot or Lowes and you can do it during commercials during the games! MJP
As long as you're being so helpful, maybe you could tell him the size of the screws and spacers he needs also. I paid the extra $15 to get a kit that was tried and true and so I wouldn't have to make multiple trips to the hardware store until I got just the right combo. Just my personal preference.
I got tired of seeing dirt in the tail light openings right after washing, so I made my own spacers out of some 3/4" solid plastic rod that I had. You have to use different length spacers on the outside lights than the inside ones use. If you ever remove the two screws and pop out one of the tail lights, you'll see the cause of the problem. There's an 8-9 inch open space between the trunk partition and the inside of the rear valence. (This is probably one of the ways they made the C6 shorter, moving the valence this amount forward.) This open space, which contains a horisontal crosswise rear structual member collects a lot of light weight road debris like leaves, grass clippings and dust, and this stuff comes out the gaps between the taillight and the recesses in the valence. Because of this, it is necessary to wrap the outside of the taillights with a foam rubber seal 1/4" to 5/16" thick. This thickness is necessary because there is a draft angle to the taillight recesses. The foam seals the taillights and stabilizes them. For screws, I bought stainless steel, No.8's(I think) X 2" long.
