Sticking brakes
Greetings,
I recently took my 2000 into a local dealer and described the following to the service writer.
After hard braking, the brakes seem to stick and will sometimes even hold the car on a small incline without me applying the brakes. The service writer asked me to sign a $35 inspection fee, because GM doesn't warrantee brakes after 7500 miles. I'll reserve any comments on that statement for now. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, how was it resolved? I searched for a technical service bulletin, but could only find the TSB related to Firebirds and Camaros. I should hear from them on the diagnosis by Friday?
Also is there someone that I could speak with at GM that anyone could share contact information on?
Don,
There is a problem with sticking brakes after WOT on the 2001, but I haven't heard about it for the 2000. On mine, I ciould get the brake to release by lifting the brake pedal with my toe. It became an automatic response anytime I went WOT.
Here's the info on the 2001:
TSB for updated vaccum brake booster for the
2001 C-5.Bulletin #01-05-22-002 dated April
addresses light brake drag,p/n #18046267
The individual part numbers are:
Brake Booster - 18026035
Gasket - 10160244
I finally had mine changed, and so far it works.
Hope this helps. Len
I had the same problem when I first got my car. Mine would come to a complete stop. I took it to the dealership on three seperate occasions and they said they could not repeat the problem and refused to do anything. Hopefully you get better results than I did.
Don, I have a 2000, and the sticky brakes. Mine was built right at the end of the model year, and must have gotten the bad brake booster. It's going in next Monday to fix that, and the leaky differential.
When my was driven from the dealership the first day the brakes were "sticking". I waited until the delaer had a bulletin to take it in. They replaced the brake booster and the little gasket, under warranty. I never heard of the 7,000 mile limit on brakes.
I have a 2000 Coupe that was built at the end of that model year. I am also just now experiencing the brake drag problem. Will have to take mine in for that and to check the "leaky differential". Anybody got any recommendations for the best Vette service in NO. Virginia/ Maryland? (I only have 6900 miles after 15 1/2 months).
Need to drive this car more!!
jcbob, mine's like yours, 15 months old and 6000 miles. I just started noticing my rear end leaking a few weeks ago(clean garage floor). I took my in for the repair of the "sticky brakes and rear end fix last Monday, they did a good job (see my follow up post in General Discussion"Number six"), and all's well, so far!!
