Cut front cover?
I seem to recall reading about front (camchain) covers that were cut in two so that future cam changes could be done much easier. I'm getting ready to put another cam in my car and would like to find out more about this. The search got me nothing. Has anyone here done this? What about the added chance of oil leakage?
Thanks, Tom
They do seem to work! Nasty Performance makes one, as well as Quick Time Performance. The Nasty one is just an OEM cut cover with flanges welded on while the QTP cover is a aluminum billet cover but much more expensive. The Nasty uses a small gasket between the flanges, the QTP just glues the seam. The QTP seam is an overlapping seam and it looks like it would not leak with the sealer they send with the cover. I'm using a QTP cover, had to do quite a bit of work to it to make if fit right but it seems to be doing good so far. I'm using a Crane top adjustable chain and you can pull the cam without having to remove the bottom half of the cover.

Thank you! That is just what I was looking for. It looks like doing my heads/ cam is going to be a lot more involved than doing the same job on the old muscle cars that I'm used to. This part should make that a one time PIA. It looks to me like the only thing involved in a cam change after this is to drain and remove the radiator and water pump. Then take the rockers and cam sprocket off and spin the cam to raise the lifters off the cam. That sure beats doing that and the steering and balancer each time. I can't imagine not putting one of these on during a cam swap. Am I missing anything else?
