Default how do you remove stock steering wheel?

Im getting a custom one in soon and I hear they are a B!tch to remove...I hear that not only do you have to have a special steering wheel puller, the steering wheel has lock tight on it and its nearly impoossible to remove without stripping out the threads? Any suggestions or removal/install advice?

You do need the right type of puller legs to pull the steering wheel, but I don't think the nut is installed with lock-tite.
The service manual does recommend that you replace the nut everytime it is removed, but I don't know of many (any?) people that do.

not a big deal; disarm the airbag, remove bolt, use the KD tool part #3510 J-hook pullers

read the shop manual on disarming the bag, it could cause serious injury and/or death

Stock steering is easy to take off. I took mine off without a puller actually. All you do is have someone put the knees under the steering wheel and put pressure up, then use both hands to pull on the upper part of the wheel and with the knees and hands pulling on the wheel, all you have to do is hit the steering shaft right in the center with a hammer and the wheel will pop right off.

I know its kinda bubba but works

Here's my wheel now.

I think the stock wheel is about the worst thing about my C5. I've never been comfortable with it.

I really like the Momo on your car. Where did you buy it?
Thanks...

I used to this when i worked at ALL Mustang in Phoenix, that was w/ the column out of the car without the steering shaft hooked up at the other end(besides they were just mustangs )

not sure on the details of the C5 column, but often there is a crush component in the system that could be damaged

Got it at a performance shop around here I think, but you can find some good ones on ebay or some online vendors.
