From what I gather it's a common problem with C5s. I think you have to replace the whole unit in order to fix it. However I have heard that giving it 3 or 4 solid taps sometimes makes it brighten back up. My '98 would be dim for a week or so, and then brighten back up for a week or so, then would just suddenly go dim again. Another exclusive feature of the C5!
It is a common problem with C5. However you don't have to replace, do a search on "dim A/C" or something like that. There is a guy that advertises on e-bay that can repair for $40 or so, or if you are good with soldering iron you can fix it yourself.
My 98 had the problem and I sent it to the guy advertising on e-bay took total time 5 days to send and get it back. Lots of members have used him. Also lots have resoldered the connections. your choice

Thank you. I will do the search. I appreciate your help.
Thanks Gary. I have since found out that this is a very common problem. I subsequently found a post with pictures and details on a fix from member "RPOZ4Z" .
Also member "mandigital" will do the fix for a small fee.
