Tried to close it the other day and it just won't. It looks like everyting is OK but the part on the tranny tunnel won't accept the latch on the console. Anyone have any suggestions?
I am not impressed with the engineering of the lid at all. The hinge seems to have to articulate somewhat to allow rotation. It is very tricky and prone to accept too much side load on the screws. You might check the screws of the hinge and carefully try slight pushing toward the passenger side as you gently fold it downward. Sort of like pushing against one's elbow with the opposite hand while bending your arm...(sorry, but its the best I could come up with as an example)
Put a drop of light machine oil on the hinge points. When I first got my car, I thought the lid would only open 2 or 3 inches until I oiled the hinges.
Check the part on the tunnel...mine ends up closed from time to time and I use a pocket knife to pop it back up so it will accept the latch from the lid.

This is the answer. There are many hinge pins, like 5, oil them all and you won't have any problems.
when I bought my 2001 coupe used, the salesman indicated the lid would need replacing. i looked at it, popped the stationary latch up, and its been fine since.
I will try to pop up the latch.....I didn't know that was the correct position. It is down now I think. Can someone show me a picture of how it is suppossed to look? Thanks for all the responses.

can someone please show me via picture or diagram. I don't want to break anything. i was taking a key and inserting it behind (towards the rear of the car) and trying to lift it forward (towards the front of the car) but it wouldn't budge.

What did you end up doing to fix this? I have the same issue
I had the same problem. The latch wouldn't pop up or down and oil didn't help. I couldn't get mine to budge, so I simply bought a new one from Corvette Central and now it works great.
Thanks Froggy. I just replaced my amrest with a new cover and when I went to put the console back on I had the Hook portion on the lid facing the wrong direction and it would not latch. Your video helped me realize my mistake.
You can slide the pick up between the carpet and the console to push the front detent. You can slide another pick into the slot above the lock cylinder to push the rear detent. With both detents pushed in, the latch mechanism can easily be pried up and out of the console.
After I did this, I found that my mechanism wasn't broken at all. It was stuck in the down position. Working at the bench, I was able to pry up the part that was stuck down. It now works perfectly, so I put it back in the car and saved myself a few bucks. Hope this helps anyone who has this issue! Thanks to everyone who posts here for the benefit of others.
