Hissing sound?
Just a couple of days ago it started to rain pretty heavy up in my neck of the woods and out of nowhere on start up a hissing sound was being made. I can't seem to pinpoint where it's coming from but it stops when I shut the car off and start it again or if I turn on the windshield defogger (WTF???). I removed the airbox on the weekend but it didn't make that noise then only when it started raining and not when it rained earlier on in the summer. Any suggestions. Thnx.

I doesn't get louder or higher in pitch if I rev the engine either, just a constant hiss. If you knew the history behind this car it might explain why I have so many minor problems with it.
check your brake booster, usually if it leaks there, you can hear it.
if the defogger blows air, it's vacuum operated, and could be offsetting
or enhancing the sound you hear. have someone operate the car while you put your head under the dash. see if you can pinpoint a compromised vacuum hose or a cracked plastic diaphragm etc.
The temp change may be a factor just like wet weather changes crack the old distributor caps of yesteryear
