Default Alarm Systems??

Anyone have a recommendation on an alarm system which is effective, relatively economical and that you can install yourself? Thanks, it appears that my '04 C5 does not have a motion sensor.

I've had the Clifford system for over 3 years...its works flawlessly.....its light years better than the factory system. The FOB never looses sync (very common problem with the factory unit) and it will arm the car from almost 100 yards away. I can be in a restaurant or coffee shop and know if my car is touched. At night I keep my keys on my bedroom night stand and even at that distance, through the house, I can lock or unlock the car. I have motion detectors and a backup battery...so if my car is touched at night.... within 20 seconds someone will be looking down the barrel of my Benelli riot gun.

Sounds real good, is it expensive and can you install it yourself? Thanks

Check with your car stereo shops. There's a product by DEI part number 504K. You can find them online for about $40 and install it yourself. I didn't know that until I asked for the installation instructions and they just gave me a clipping of it that describes the operation portion. I guess for me it is worth $175 at the stereo shop because if I tried to install it, I'll probably short something out connecting to the wrong wires or something. It does have a lifetime warranty and it does compliment the factory PassKey security system quite nicely.

Effective? Nobody pays attention to alarms anymore. Too many false alarms. My insurance company gives exactly a $0 discount for an alarm now. The crooks know how to disable them extremely quickly, too.

The only alarm that might be of value is a paging alarm, where you are going to immediately go out and check on the car. I wouldn't recommend confronting the criminals, however. Some people have ended up dead.

A tracking device is worthwhile, and the insurance companies will give you discounts for those.
