got a low oil light on starting it yesterday. drove it a while so it was hot. i checked the oil and it was about 1/8 inch below the hash marks on the dip stick. when i t was cold it was at the bottom of the hash marks. i just got an oil change 1500 miles ago and its not burning nor leaking. is this a common prob or am i really low on oil?
I got a low oil on the 2001 coupe I just bought couple of months ago.
the oil life was 99% so i thought the guy figured it needed 5 quarts.
added a quart, it was fine
3 weeks later, low oil again. I added a quart, drove it like a 90 year old buick owner for 6 more weeks, and voila, no more light and the oil isn't going down any more.
soooooo I figure the rings just never seated, and driving it like an old lady helped the situation, and no more oil consumption
I have read that folks who track their cars add an extra 1/2 - 1 quart of oil over full before they track due to acceleration and cornering loads so they will not starve the engine in high G situations. If you drive it hard a lot, You might just want to add another 1/2 quart over full and I bet your problem will be gone.
I always check my oil when the engine is cold and most of the oil is in the pan. Just had my oil changed and I gave the tech 7 qts. My oil is now reading about 1/4 over full.

Dude. Read your post. 1/8th BELOW the hash marks. It's low. The DIC is telling you something. Who changed the oil? Did they put in 6 and a HALF quarts of Mobil one or equivalent? If you aren't flogging your toy, my vote is the oil change was poured short.
