Hi guys,I have a a4 and I was thinking TCI converter with 342 gear,s what do you guy,s think about this idea.thank,s Gary
I personally like the Yank SS and the Precision Viglante converters. They are smaller, lighter and have more torque multiplication. I'd go with 3.73s mininum and 3.90s preferrably. 3.42s just aren't enough.

I won't give a recommendation on a brand name for a TC since everyone has their favorite, but be carfull not to go overboard on either the stall speed or the STR ratio on a STREET car. Contact the guys at YANK or Vig and talk to them.
As far as gears. I think the 3.42s are perfect for combination performance/hwy driving. I like to take trips in my car, so I wanted to be able to cruise at a reasonable rpm and get good gas milage.
I just put a 3000 stall TC and 3.42 gears in my wife's car and it performs like a differnt car, and still gets 29mpg at 70mph on the hwy.

3.73s vig 3200 here. I drive my car on the street everyday works great. I took my car to the track just once to see what it would do. With just the gears, stall, headers, cia, tune. I put it in the 12s Do yourself a favor and do the gears and converter

Hey Gary, I also have an 05 A4 and just had a set of 3.42 put in (had 2.72). They also put in a 3200 stall speed. Will let you know how things work out. Charlie

...SS3600 and 342's

Man, it's a bitch making a decision around here - all these choices and each one good for the individual making that particular choice!
Is it generally true that as the power peak moves up the rpm band, the higher the stall rpm should be? As shown above, would the person with the SS3600 have a bigger cam than the person with the 2800 stall, other things being equal (which they never are)?
Well I just got back from picking the car at autoworx in TORONTO and all I can say is wow.I ended up with a vigalante 3200 converter and 373 gears. The throttle response is incredible and the accelleration is outstanding. My car is so much fun to drive now,it was so lame with the 315 gears.I was going to put on headers in the spring ,now I don,t know if I need to.This has to be the best single mod you can do on a a4 other than a turbo or supercharger.Oh yea or nitrous.
