How easy is it to break a sensor while trying to remove it? My tire shop says one is sticky & that he's left penetrating fluid on it & will try again.
But he also said it could break. Are these quite resistant when simply trying to remove with a socket?

I have to think your mechanic is an idiot...the nut that holds them on is only 8 pounds of torque...they are alittle more than hand tight.. unscrewing the nut will allow the sensor to fall out of the hole..
Is the tire off the rim??? Does he know there is a special procedure to remove the tire without destroying the sensor????

What he said -
EDIT:
One must take care that the tire bead does not damage the sensor, which is part of the air inlet valve itself. After breaking the bead from the rim, remove the sensor/valve assembly prior to removing the tire from the rim.

Discount Tire did not want to remove my old sensors... They said they were corroded.. and were afraid they would break. So at least there are others out there saying the same thing your mechanic told you....
My car was winter driven here in MI by the previous owner.
I notice you are from NB. do you drive your Vette in the winter?
I bought new ones... 4/$127 delivered from Fred Beans.
never winter driven. We did break a sensor (actually the mechanic let me try to remove it). It was corroded. I just ordered one from my local dealer... 120 CAN a pop. ouch!
