I plan to put Amsoil in my son's 2000 Chevy Z71 truck engine. Vehicle has about 150k miles and engine is still in great shape and has always had oil changed every 3k-5k miles at oil change places with regular type oil. In switching to synthetic Amsoil do I need to do anything special other than draining old regular oil and changing the filter.
That is all you need to do... depending on the pan shape, you might want to elevate one end of the truck versus the other to drain as much out as you can.
There will obviously be a slight amount of dino oil in the crankcase, but it won't hurt anything.
I probably wouldn't go the recomended mileage for the first ol change becouse of the little bit of the old oil that will be mixing with the Amsoil. And use a Ea032 Amsoil filter also.
I have had two high mileage vehicles (100k+ before the switch) that started using oil once I made the switch. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but when I went back to regular oil the engines stopped using extra oil. Qualifier is that they were mid 80's vintage and newer engines may not react the same. Just my 2 cents.
Yes a lot of vette owners use it, If you could see some of the engines that I pull down that have been running Amsoil you'd ask yourself way your not running it.
