Default Need help on a few things!

lets see, i have an 01 vette 75kmiles , auto. i have a few questions. i got the car about a month ago. when i bought it, it had an oil gauge problem. it read high. actually it read 80 on the gause, and 130 i believe on the display. took it back and it was fixed. it read 40 for about 3weeks, then about 3 days ago it shot right back up. what could be wrong??

also, another problem. im cruising at a certain speed. and i let off the gas pedal and it moves from side to side just slightly. i push the pedal again and it moves again. like the back end. what could be wrong?

one more question. is there any way i can find out what gears and axle?

sorry im new to vettes. but if you guys can help me out. i would greatly appreciate it. thanks again

Be patient! A lot of forum members are just getting home from work. Look in the glove comp. for axle info.

Alex,

Congrats on your new ride. Drive it in good health.

I would say to take the car back for another new sensor. Sometimes these things take a couple before they work out okay.

As far as the back end moving when you let off of the gas. That could be many things I would suppose. uneven wear in the rear tires, bad shocks in back, the need for a four wheel alignment etc. It should be fairly easy for an experienced mechanic to pinpoint.

I am not sure that there are different axles available on our cars but the gears we know you have either 2.73s or 3.15s stock because you have an automatic. The 3.15 is an upgrade/option which should be on your build sheet or you could get a list of options on your car via your vin#.

Hope this helps!

Has the car been in an accident?? My old mr2 would do that back and forth crap and it was cause the whole rear end was thrown off from the accident ... but it could also be that somethings worn out shocks, endlinks, tie rods anything like that is what im guessing

The oil pressure sensor is what needs to be replace, sometimes you get a bad one, even if it was new.

As for the rear I would suggest checking the four bolts that holds the rear cross frame to the body. And check the upper A arms in the rear as well. If any of those are lose I could cause the car to wobble or shake when braking.

The oil pressure does not affect the car, but just take it back to get it fix.

The OP sensor is at the rear of the engine, under the intake. The part is about $20 and typically $200+ to fix.

As for the rear end movement, I'd start by checking the Wheel bearings by jacking the car up and checking for looseness, and then go get a wheel alignment. My car handled worse than a 200K mile hyundai when the rear was out of alignment.
