It's a filter we get from a supplier that is different than Donaldson. They come pre-oiled and ready to plug on the end.
A few items about this unit:
This is not a cold air kit. No shroud cutting is necessary.
This is just a flter on the end like a round K&N or the like.
It is trapezoidily(yeah, like that's a word;)) shaped.
The hole for the air tube to stick in causes the filter to be very tightly cinched down to the point that some folks didn't like it. We had two returns out of about 90 we have sold this year because of that.
It will not fit in the Vortex box as the sleeve isn't long enough to fit to the MAF where I wouldn't feel comfortable using it personally, if I changed by Vortex filter to this one.
It will fit the end of Halltech products.
It is available in the 97-00 and 01/02 varieties.
Anyone interested, should be buying it for it's intended spot in the market of intakes and filters that relieve the restrictive airboxes choking affect on air passage. That is, to give you a less expensive item than say a Vortex or Blackwing at around $225, that, for around $70 will suffice as a filter that gives you more power than the stock airbox. You may see 6-8 hp gains with this unit.
It's surface area is about half of the Blackwing.
It can be cleaned with a solvent based cleaner, something you should never do with a Blackwing.
I feel like I am leaving something out... maybe not.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the whole bottom side of the filter lay on top of the radiator shroud so that there is very little room for air to enter this side of the filter?
Yes the botton lays against the shroud. If you position the clamp so that the screw is on the bottom it holds it off a little.
The idle relearn consists of running the car with the a/c on for 5 minutes and then turning off the a/c for 5 minutes. Others say to just drive the car for approx. 30 miles and it will relearn on its own. So far it idles between 550-650 rpm.
Removing the airbox was fairly simple, just takes a little time. I removed the MAF also when removing the airbox was the only way for me to do it.

Just one more important thing to add to the idle relearn,
To do it right, you either need to disconnect the battery OR pull some fuses (I think there are two specific ones) to cause the PCM to reset.
I didn't know this at the time I did the K&N/open airfilter box mod on my '99, so I did it without actually resetting the computer, which is not as good as having it learn from scratch.
