:mad It wasn't my intent to return to the forum with a rant, but I have to do this or snap!
I went to my dealer for an oil change and a couple of other trivial things yesterday. It seemed to take forever. When they finally finished, I found that, without asking or telling me, they had applied a GM recall regarding my Steering Column Lock. As part of the process, again without consulting or informing me ahead of time, they removed the C5 Solutions Column Lock Bypass that I had installed. I expressed my strong concerns and objections, but it was too late.
Sure enough, I walked out this morning to find the damn column locked! :mad After only 14 miles and two starts!!! :mad They did the usual replace-it-with-an-identical-part that constitutes their idea of how to fix a design problem. Now I'm afraid to go out to my car for fear that it will be locked again.
Anyway, does anyone have the e-mail for C5 Solutions? I need to get an other copy of the instructions so I can re-install the bypass. Also, what's the conventional wisdom on the mean-time-between-failures on the new and "improved" column lock hardware? Thanks in advance...
I hate to tell you this but.... The C5 solutions bypass in not compatable with the new GM fix..once the new fix is installed the c5 solutions can not be used.. This is right from the horses mouth.,.. C5 solutions posted that here last week.. you can do a search on their name of mine.. C5 solutions posted on my topic and their own..

Ahhh, dammit! I was afraid of that. The morons that got me into this mess said that the connections were identical in form and function, so I assumed that the existing bypass would work. Thanks, GM, for "fixing" it so I am in fear of my car and trying to figure out what I need to do to avoid being stranded (which may mean getting a new car, <sigh>, something I just don't have the time for right now.)
Is C5Solutions cooking up a new bypass? Off to search I go...
That's incredible! This dealer needs to be identified. I'm not in the Chicago area, but there must be a lot of Forum members who are.
Woodfield Chevrolet in Schaumburg. Ever since service advisor Jim Flood left, their service has gone in the toilet. One of their two Corvette guys, Woody, seems to know his stuff, but the other guy is an idiot, and the advisors and management have become useless.
 I just brought mine in for the same thing! :smash: :smash: I should know better as I have never had a problem in 31,000 miles of use! :cry I hope I have better results!
Actually, JustJ is the 6th report I've personally received about a column lock occurrence after the recall. I'm by no means a focal for these reports, so I'm sure there are more.
I wonder how many of those 6 are defective or just bad installs? I would think a bunch of them have been installed by now. The new lock does sound different.
And thanks for letting us know that the CLB would not work on the car after the recall. I sold mine easily so they have good resale value and reputation.
In my mind, a bad install should appear when the tech drives the car out of the bay. Even a loose wiring connection should be seen within one drive. I know of reports where the failure occurred weeks after the work was performed though.
That's good to know about the resale, I'm glad the product's reputation precedes itself.
Okay, now wait a sec...I'm REALLY confused, now! My car locked up on Wednesday night. I had it towed to local Chevy and they "fixed" it. I also ordered the bypass.
(Note to Tom @ C5Solutions - Sorry! I was pissed and not thinking! Ordered from the first vendor that had the product. Forgot to buy from you. Please forgive the indiscretion, okay? )
So, are you guys saying that with the "new" fix, I cannot also install the bypass? That, in effect, they bypassed the bypass? And, that it's NOT 100% effective? Christ on a soda cracker, what's WRONG with these people at GM?  And we wonder why a seemingly normal, middle aged, white guy suddenly goes ballistic one day and starts throwing rotten zuchini at the local Chevy dealer!
But really, is that the deal? Did I blow $60.00 on something I can't use? Geez. It's really gettin' to "tough love" time for me and the General. :mad
No dice Dennis. The new harness installed with the recall changes the connections the bypass needs to interface with the BCM. The recall needs to be uninstalled before the bypass would work. sucks huh?
