Default difference between LS1and LS6

I see alot of guys selling there Z06 parts on here and LS1 guys putting them on there cars, but are there any ohter parts required sensors etc...or is it straight bolt on and go.
What about the compression ratio? What kind of power improvements do u find. The z06 is rated for 405 hp can u get that with the stock parts on the LS1?

Any help would be great. I know the z06 has better exhaust I'm planning on Kooks headers now and just thinking of doing this all at once.

The heads intake manifold and camshaft are different. The setup is straight bolt on alot of guys go with the LS6 heads and a cam for good hp imporvement. I believe dont quote me that the LS1CR is 10.5:1 and the LS6 11.1:1 Hope that helps.

So the only differences are heads, cam, and intake?

I would like to know as well... The topic came up yesterday at work.

after a certain year (and something in me wants to say 00 or 01) the LS1 block was actually an LS6 block. The differences were oil passages in the block around the crank journals and in the front covers...other then heads (which will change the compression ratio depending on the cc they are) cam and intake- you could put these on your newer LS1 and have an LS6. I have a pretty good book on building performance LS1\6's and it talks about the difference...and it says if you are building an engine to use the later blocks for the above reasons...I was going to do this when I had my 97- but I never got around to it...though I had all the parts from an 04 LS6 engine...345 to 405 would have been a nice increase!

The exhaust manifold is also different (from what I've seen). The LS6 manifold looks more like a shorty header.

The intake is the EXACT same if it is a 2001 or later (which it has to be if we are talikng LS6 right) After 2000 ALL the LS1 and LS6's used the LS6 manifold. Heads and cam are the only major diff.

I thought the Throtle body was a different size. Thought the Zo6 was an 80mm?
