Default DIC average fuel reading?

Maybe I just noticed it but the DIC average milage display seems a lot lower than usual. As I let the car warm up in the garage I can sit there and watch it drop also stopped at a red light it dropped like it was a clock ticking off seconds from 25 down to less than 15 and within 2 miles of easy driving it only came up about 2 MPG. Now I know it's an average and while it's idling there is no MPG. But I don't remember it dropping that quickly before. I do realize that these are not an accurate MPG reading but it seemed a little closer before.

Have you reset it recently? The longer it stays un-rest the larger the average, the longer it will take to move up and down.

If you reset it the average will jump up and down alot until you get miles on the new average.

Did you recently RESET the fuel economy? It is an average based on the miles driven since the last RESET.

After filling at the gas pump, reset the fuel economy, and then look at RANGE ... it'll show LOW since the car's average is 0 MPG since you filled the tank. As soon as you start driving you will see the range recalculate, and for the first few miles (especially around town) it will change quite dramatically.

Thanks guys that's probably it. I have re-set it many times but usally when I'm doing a little distance. Lately it's been little short trips to town and local GTGs. I kept re-setting it thinking something was wrong. I probably never let it get more than 5 miles logged.

I daily drive my 01 z (stock) and I track basically every tank .. the more city driving that you do the more "off" the DIC is. I have found with highway driving it is usually about .3 to .5 mpg high on the DIC vs actual. With mainly city driving I see about .7 to 1.5 mpg high vs actual. I average just about 20mpg per tank generally speaking and about 25 to 27 on trips at 80mph.
