I recently had my car lowered (bolts-only). In the back they installed new, longer bolts and basically lowered it to about 1" of clearance. The front is about 1.5 inches higher than the back because they did not cut the bushings.
Should I cut them? Or is it better to leave it as is?
I have Bilstein Sports and Z06 wheels with Goodyear Eagle SC tires if that makes any difference. It is an FRC so came with Z51. Personally, I LOVE the way the car handles right now so a rougher ride probably wouldn't bother me. Mostly I don't want to cut them if it is going to make performance or handling worse.
Personally, I would leave them alone...I figured that the engineers who designed the suspension are a lot smarter than me when it comes to knowing what the proper ride height should be. I think she's low enough ( I know she's lower than my previous C4). :yesnod:
Evil twin- was thinking of the air ducts from Performance, but could not make up mind till i saw how yours looked. Now know I am adding them to mine. Thanks for the pics.

I have a very similar set up to you, and I asked myself the same question. After driving with it lowered as much as it will go without cutting, I've decided to keep it the way it is. any lower and it would be too much. It already scrapes and bottoms out over some speed bumps and driveways (AA frame savers are a must). So any more would make it too low to be really practical. It still handles great with the Bilstiens. JMHO
I think these cars look bad foot when lowered even farther than is allowed by the stock equipment, but, be sure you want to change your driving habits if you do...we are already so low as it is, this will make a difference.
Also, your ride quality may suffer to the point you don't like it as much. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck!
Oh yeah, the hair?, to each his own...BTW, you got a supercuts near you:lol:
I cut mine after lowering it as far as it would go without cutting the bushings.
GLAD I did it ! I was affraid to do it, but just wasn't happy with the looks untill
I cut the bushings. No problems so far and have been down the Drag strip
about 8 times since. Handles great !
Good luck,
Steve
Heh, just saw the poll and laughed out loud. Yes, the hair needs to go. I was dating a girl for about 1.5 years. When she learned that I had naturally curly hair she laid down the mandate that I must not cut it. So it's grown ever since. She dumped my sorry *** a couple of months ago so maybe time for a new look :D
The verdict is in, the bushings are going to be cut by 2/3 and the back is going to be raised a tad. Hopefully those dorks at Corvettes of Houston can even things up too (left side is 1/4 inch higher than the right side, front and back.)
Also will do another four wheel alignment. If the dudes at COH do the 4-wheel for free, I shall take back the bad things I said about them :D :D :D
I did exactly what you did...and then I cut them. I love the look, ride, and most of all the handling. The lower the better. Can't tell much difference in the ride. I only cut 2 of the 3 bushings to give a little rubber between parts.
You don't need to cut them to get the look you want. I'm assuming you have the Z51 suspension. In my case, I simply took out the front bolt altogether and placed a piece of 3/8" rubber tubing (about 3" in diameter) between the shock and suspension arm. The spring is stiff enough on its own to prevent the arm from being hit, but I put the rubber tubing as a just in case. The car will be lowered just the right amount, and you basically have the same amount of rubber between the arm and the shock without butchering your car. Much shorter time to do this (no cutting required), and you can put the car back to stock and no one will have known it was ever lowered. Good Luck!!!
