Default Differential Leak Question

Dropped my 2000 coupe off at the dealer yesterday after noticing some drops under the driver's side rear of the diff. Stuck my hand up and sure enough the driver's side shaft coming out of the diff was coated with fluid.

Dealer called and confirmed it's the infamous seals on the driver's side output shaft that are leaking.

Is an alignment required after this repair is complete?

no - why would you think an alignment would be necessary?

When they disconnect the rear “tie-rod” at it’s castle nut, the rear toe adjustment does not change. Now, if some idiot were to UNSCREW the adjustable end of the tie-rod, then a re-alignment would be required.

I just replaced my CV boot the other day and had to remove the CV shaft. I did not have to undo the tie rod, just pull the upper control arm (2 bolts) and the brake caliper (2 more bolts).

Thanks for the replies... I wasn't sure that's why I asked.

Spoke to the dealer and the service is complete, dealer said the tech made note that he hears some "noise back there". He said the fluid was pretty low.

I did not hear any noise driving it over the last couple of days.... what should I look for? Is there anything they could have done replacing the seals or refilling the fluid that might cause a noise? I'll report back when I pick up the car in a little bit.

If you ran it dry it could have caused damage but that seems unlikely.
