Default c6 Z06 Shocks for C5 Vert???

I've been reading a lot of posts concerning Z06 shocks and it appears that the 2004 Z06 shock is the best overall shock for the C5 however the C6 Z06 shock is supposedly very similar.

If z06 sways and z06 springs are added to a C5 will the C6 Z06 work effectively? It is certainly much cheaper. Not interested in really autocrossing but want to have the best street setup and drag race package.

Anything else required to setup the Vert suspension similar to the Z06?

Thanks,

They worked good for me, I had them on a 99. Just make sure you dump the runcraps.

How do they ride?

Did you have to get a front end alignment?

Any other suspension mods?

I have bump steer problems and want to upgrade to Z06 suspension components to get rid of it.

Thanks,

I added the 04 Z06 shocks, sways, Michelin ZPs and lowered the car all at the same time. I'm very happy with the results. The car stays more settled and flat. The ride is firmer, which one would expect, but not unplesant at all. My wife even enjoys driving it more.

When I did this, the C6 shocks were just becoming available and there wasn't to much info on them. A LOT of members have used them. Way cheaper for sure.

I have no clue as to which is better of the two, the C5 Z06 shocks or C6 Z06 shocks. Except to say I installed C5 Z06 front and rear sway bars and C6 Z06 shocks. I have been very pleased with the way it handles.

to me the ride did seem firmer (I did springs also) below 40mph, but above that speed, I couldn't tell any difference.

Started running the C6 Z06 shocks when they first came out with stock springs and Z06 sways. It was a great improvement over stock. Of course as you get better at road courses you get faster and thus need better handling so I changed the sways out to T1 bars. Body roll cut down even more.

Now I am to the point I need to change the springs out. Not sure if I am staying with the shocks (it will depend if I can get them to match with the springs or not).

All that being said I think if I was not doing track events I would have been 100% happy with the Z06 sways and the C6 Z06 shocks.

Thanks,

I changed them out from 02 Z06 shocks, the ride was still firm, but not as harsh when hitting rough spots. It hugged the curves better and seemed to control roll better. I did not have to have an alignment after intalling the shocks. They are a hair longer than the others, but that was not a problem. The only other thing I changed was adding the metal end links to the sway bars. MY bump steer went away when I put on the BFG kdw's big difference from the runcraps. I do not run auto x or anything I just like the Hi perf handling and it make my grin wider.

good info, i was going to order some bilstiens (sp?) but I'm only doing street driving w/ my 98. I figured the z06 stuff would be a decent step up w/o breaking the bank. just bought her 5 days ago and looking to swap stuff out.

Not to hijack your post, but I'm also considering this move. How do C6 z06 shocks compare to 98 Z51?

From what I have read the 2004 C5 Z06 shocks are the best made by Chevrolet with the 2006 C6 Z06 shocks being the same or pretty close to the 2004 C5 Z06 shocks.

Maybe some other people that have put the C6 Z06 shocks can give us more real world experience with using them on a C75.

I put the C6 Z06 shocks and bars on my C5 vert as soon as Beans had them. Car handles a lot better.

Wow, you've got some nice mods. Same car as mine but with many more mods would like to see some pictures and curious if you have any ET's.
(I know this is off topic but I can't high jack this thread because it is my thread.)

Just recently I removed my 2003-Z06 shocks and installed 2006-Z06 shocks, I already had the Z06 F&R sway bars. Found the 2006-Z06 to be a little tighter & firmer than the ones I replaced but attribute this to newness but still close in qualities (maybe just a hair firmer). Street ride is still acceptable and it corners great with the GY D3's. I've avoided the 2004-Z06 shocks because I thought they would be too firm to enjoy a street ride. I don't track the car.

My '97 A4 I put on the ZO6 sway bars with metal ends, Bilstein sport shocks. This combo tighten up the handling and the ride is a little firmer.
All bushings are neoprene. Not a bad feeling for a daily driver.
