ok I got P1631 : Theft Deterrent Systempassword incorrect and B2721 : Key Detection Circuit. What do these mean? Its been doing this here and there. I have the Column Lock Bypass, would that have something to do with it? Thanks for any help
I used my spare key and it still does it. I guess both are worn out or the igintion is bad. I just had a new iginition installed about a year ago, hopefully thats not it or it might be a bad one. Hopefully someone will chime in and help us solve this.
I had this exact same issue about a year ago. I ended up buying a new iginition cylinder and had it cut to match my keys. I installed it, and it worked perfectly until a week ago when I started getting the same codes again and it even kept the car from starting. So, I removed the lock cylinder to inspect and noticed that the tiny little wire that attaches to the cylinder had broken. This is the wire that feeds the BCM with a signal to tell it if the key resistor is the correct one to complete the circuit. So, I cut off the bad wire and reattached it and also reinforced the wire with hot glue to keep it from bending when the ignition switch it turned on and off. It fixed the problem, at least so far! Bottom line, either buy another new ignition cylinder, or remove this one and inspect the wire for breakage.
