I am in the process of replacing the drivers side Headlight Actuator/Motor on my 2000 Coupe. The gear is stripped. The manual has you removing the headlight assembly unit from the vehicle, and then replacing the motor. I tried to remove the motor while it was in the vehicle but one of the (3) bolts holding it to the linkage will not clear the hood hinge. And, it is not clear if the light assembly will need to be supported when the motor is removed? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Revoving the entire headlight assembly is very easy. In addition to undoing the electrical connector there are 3 bolts and two nuts to remove and it all comes out. There is a description of how to do it maybe another member or your search will turn up the web site. After removal you can just replace the gear in each one (much cheaper).
I removed the headlight motor to replace the gear without removing the entire headlight assembly from the car, but it was a bit tight.
With the headlight manually raised and the bezel removed, the best suggestion is to get two 10mm wrenches. Hold the nut under the headlight with one while loosening the bolt with the other. The linkage nut comes off fairly easy. I did have to support the headlight door by putting a towel under the front lip of the headlight and placing a thin stiff board between the headlight and the towel covered bumper.
