I was getting on the freeway driving home from work today and i hear a loud grinding noise, which went away when i let off the throttle. I pulled into a parking lot, popped the hood got back in the car after seeing no leaks or smoke. Put the car in reverse, and nothing, the car rolled forward. After i pushed the car out of it's spot, I start driving and find i only have 1st and 3rd gear. My tuner says maybe it's a band...any experts out there? I am on borrowed time with the trans, 91k miles, and it was tuned less than a week ago, so maybe torque management? I wasn't on the gas hard at all when the noise occurred, sf traffic during commute hour doesn't allow it. Any ideas??? I've already started the pricing on a rpm trans, how much am i looking at for an install?
You can feel lucky that you got 91,000 out of this. These things are a POS... 2001 Blazer 30,000 miles had to replace transmisssion. 1999 Corvette 38000 miles had to replace transmisssion... Chevrolet the heartbreak of America.. Gm wonders why its losing money as well as market share to the Japanese Manufactures.....Hmmm Go Figure... I still love my cars
Just spoke with Todd from RPM transmissions. It's definitely the sunshells that went. They're known for being one of the weak points of the tranny...Damn!
Does anyone know the link for the DIY trans swap? I can't seem to find it using the search function
