well i have been having a few problems with my clutch so i thought i would look into it a bit and the first thing i look at is the fluid and it's BLACK i know that cant be good. what clutch fluid do you guys use and how do i go about changing it aslo looking into changing the oil and tranny fluid while i am under there i think i am going with royale purple thanks for any help the car is an 02 coupe with just under 55k i bought it with 51k
Red-line for my transmission. ATF Blue for clutch ... Transmission is easy. The clutch is a little more involved. If you decide to do a complete flush on the clutch I would suggest go ahead and put on a remote bleeder.. makes it easy next time..
I use Valvoline Synpower for the hydraulics. Use a turkey baster to suck out all the old fluid. Wipe the reservoir clean and refill. If you want all the fluid in the line and slave replaced you'll have to bleed the system.
Remove the Clutch Master Cylinder Cap and diaphram, use a turkey baster to draw off the contaminated fluid almost down to the bottom entry hole (Don't draw any out of the hole). Refill to full with synthetic DOT 3 brake fluid (I use GUNK's High Temperature synthetic ABS brake fluid). Watch you don't spill any, nasty stuff. Put the diaphram and cover back on the Clutch Master Cylinder and pump the clutch several times (I did 40 per fluid change cycle) to get any air bubbles to the surface. Repeat the process until fluid begins to clear up. Drive for a day or two, check and repeat. I remove one MC fill every week or so and replace. Brake fluid is relatively cheap. Clutch fluid stays pretty clear. Don't know if this is helping my car or not, but my clutch pedal is 'gold' at 20,000 miles and my fluid stays pretty clear. If your fluid blackens immediately, then you may IMHO have some slave cylinder issues. Just what I do and seems to work. I also have a Mighty Vac and somewhere there's a post on using this to bleed the clutch. I haven't done it yet, but will over the weekend. Good luck. The turkey baster method may not be the best or most sophisticated, but it's quick and easy.

I use Valvoline Synpower DOT 3 and 4 Synthetic brake fluid.
It is a borated ester that has a higher boiling point and reduces water uptake than traditional DOT 3 fluids.
I have been using for the past 2 years on both my Vettes
I also use the turkey baster method....
At the same time I change the clutch fluid i also do the brake fluid.
