Default Driveline Vibration

Need advice,I have 02z,few mods, mostly stock 50k on it,I have noted a vibration drive line like,in drivers seat and feel it in shifter, worse @ 2500-3000 rpms, not tire vibration.Took car to dealer and was told my clutch was smoked causing vibration, they did not inspect clutch just susspected it.I have no clutch slippage at all,yea Im sure my clutch is 50k worn out,but I cant see a clutch being worn causing vibration like this.I am serv.mgr.@ Mitsu.dealership,so my guys are not as vette familiar,it sure feels like a drive shaft/u-joint,in this case torque tube, any clues,I did look at harmonic balancer from top of engine only.HELP!!!!!!!!!

I have an 02 A4 Coupe and had a vibe that came up worst at 1800 to 2200 RPM range. Could feel it in the steering wheel, seat of pants etc. Turned out to be a spun input bearing in the drive shaft / torque tube (located just behind the damper). Had to replace the whole torque tube, shaft assembly - about $2300 new from GM plus about 6 hours labor.

Phil, how did you determain it was in the tube, could you visably see failure once tube removed? What led to the diag.what led tech.to torque tube,is there anything you can see from under car,I have rack to put car in air,can you see vbration while running,or did they just guess it was tube because of symptoms?Any clues helpfull-Michael

Started feeling the vibe and was quite noticable - seat of the pants and in the wheel, etc. Thought at first the engine but no codes and dealer checked it all and engine was fine.

Finally The Master tech at the dealer used their VIBRATION Tester. The vibe at 1800-2000 RPM is a function of engine revolution, not a multiple of it. So would be Crank, Drive Line related. Apparently any vibe problem in the drive line will show up the worst at this RPM. At first he though it might be Crank Pulley Damper, but then opened the cover on bottom of Bellhousing and saw some wobble or vibe in the input shaft (front end shaft that connects to Bell housing at rear of motor). He found that the clamp that connects the shaft to the coupling there was not torqued as it should have been. Not sure why but trans had been changed under warranty a couple years before I got the car and I suspect it was not properly torqued.

Anyway, when torqued tube was removed and driveshaft pulled from the torque tube the front bearing race was shot. This is actually the inner part of the housing - does not have a removable race - therefore had to change the whole assembly.
