Default OIl Change c5

First of all let me say that I come to this forum alot because there is great information from people who realy love these cars. That said let me also say that I spent some time reading other post about oil changes and I just wont to ask some quetions anyway. The first question I have is this, I have read several places on the forum that say you need to let the oil drain out for an extensive period of time why? That beeing said when I bought this car at the dealer and they gave me free oil changes I have to pay the difference in regular oil and mobil 1 but this is cheaper not that cheaper is better. However we all no they are not going to let it drain for even 10 minutes. I am eventully going to get some rino ramps but right now I only have jack stands and a floor jack this is all I have ever needed until this point. I have always done my own oil changes and look forward to doing one on the c5 eventualy but not having the tools right now it would be eaiser to go to the dealership. Also is there anyway that I can make sure that they put mobil 1 in. Also I have read some things about the oil mileage indiactor and the life of mobil 1. All this was confusing becase some people said they did not use the indiactor and others talked about how great it is and there was alot said about the life of the sythetic oil. This makes me think that some of this stuff is just personel preferance and not that important. However I no that they important thing is to chang the oil.

Because the Vette has limited ground clearance the oil pan is a different design than most other cars.
It is long, wide and has a flat bottom. It does not facilitate draining as well as others, that is why it takes longer. To help, most raise the rear end up an inch or so higher, this allows gravity to drain the used oil towards the front located drain hole.

The only way to ensure you get Mobil 1 is to watch them put it in .... If you don't trust them... you probably should not have bought from them.

Your DIC will tell you when you should change oil.
Many here like to pamper their car and change oil much more frequently than is technically necessary.

I had one of the lifetime free oil changes many years ago on a 280ZX. I could watch these guys change the oil. But soon I found it to be a major PITA to take the car there wait, wait, sometimes a half hour or more, not counting getting there. And they only put the nissan filter in for $15. I could do it faster and cheaper.

That is my story

The best way to tell if they put mobil 1 in is to watch them. Although it does have a different smell to it than mineral oil. I have not try smelling dip sticks to see if you can tell. The oil life monitor won't know the difference. If they put regular oil in and you change according to the OLM you would probably exceed the life of the oil by 2 or 3 times. Also the car is designed for synthetic.... Just make sure they put the synthetic in. Also you have enough with a floor jack and jack stands to change your oil.
Good luck.
