I've got the same thing. Happens most at slow speeds and tight corners, like in a parking lot.
I had my dealer tech listen to it. He is waiting for a replacement differential to show up for my car. Until then, he says I shouldn't worry, it won't blow up.
To help troubleshoot, I replaced the stock fluid with Redline. At first, the noise was better but definitely still there. After about 50 miles (two round trips to work) the noises are gone.
Other posts on the forum say this is a temporary fix. I would have the diff replaced if you're still in warranty. If not, try the Redline and see how long it lasts. I guess if you add more Limited Slip additive you can make the noises stop that way too.
The 6 speed cars typically make a rattle or chatter in the tranny when starting out. Since the tranny and dif are both in the back, it's difficult to tell who is the culprit. The diff fluid change is the cure only if your rear end (diff) makes a chatter or grinding or snapping noise when going around a CORNER at low speed. If that's your condition, try refilling the diff with GM synthetic plus the little bottle of conditioner. If that dosen't fix the noise, try the standard (non-synthetic) GM lube plus conditioner.
I've tried Redline w/ the additive and both GM synthetic w/ the additive and GM dino w/ the additive. The quietest is the GM synthetic w/ the additive.
