I'd go with one step bigger on the cam, i.e. to a 224/228 with a little more lift, too. You'll be sorry you went to the expense of installing a cam (or hassle, if you DIY) that's not much bigger than the stock ZO6 cam. I've got a 228/232 @112, and it doesn't have much lope at all @ 825 rpms. Don't know anything about stg 3 Patriots, so estimates would just be a WAG, but I'll say 410-425 rwhp and about 395 tq.

Let me be the devil's advocate here.

I went one step smaller on the camshaft and love it. With a 218/218 duration, .561" lift and a 114 LSA using stage IIX heads I'm making 423 sae rwhp and 398 torque. Because of the smaller cam I pass the sniffer, get better than stock gas mileage, and make more low end torque. It makes for an extremely drivable street engine. A 224/28 or bigger cam will make more HP, but only above 5,000 rpm or higher. Unless this is a drag racing engine why go bigger? For the street you want the power in the rpm band you will be using. I'd gladly e mail a file of my dyno of this baby cam package to someone who can attach it.

I'll agree with you, it really depends on what he's wanting to do. I've sold a Lunati Voodoo that is .531/.531 212/218 113/109 that made an increase of a little over 30hp with the stock heads. And if the car is a a4 that is about as big as you'll want to go with a stock converter.

Default CAm Specs

I think the first two on the stock list are LS1 and Z06 respectively.

http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

I have 224/228 .591 115 Vette Doctors custom grind w/ Z06 heads and American Racing lTs and 6 speed. Here's the dyno sheet. It has mild lope.

Good Luck

If your middle of the road about cams, The TR224 is a great cam.
I had it and loved it. Mine was on a 114 LSA and I passed NY and Va emmission. I upgraded to the TSP 228R when I did the heads, and it had some tuning issues

I'm about to install the LG G5x3 cam and AFR 205 heads. Looking for some big time kick in the a$$. "Leave nothing on the table" So I'm told.

I've got the Corsa Indy's too. Behind LG longtubes. They are loud.

Have some fun.

Those heads are not really designed for a 346. You do know you will be giving up loads fo torque with those heads on a stock cube motor right? If you want a better combo, go with a little larger cam and smaller runner heads. If you want it to be fun on the street and not just fun over 5K rpm I would rethink your head choice.

Stg 2 is perfect for the street. After you decide on what you want out of the car in terms of driveability and power, call TSP and let them know your goals. Then get a recommended cam that would best match the flow of the heads but without compromising drivability.

I would suggest a 224/228 590 lift 113 LSA cam and comp 921 springs. With the heads you are planning on getting and tuning, you should make well over 400 RWHP and still have good drivability. I made 443 RWHP with that cam and ported heads and headers through TI exhaust and cats.

How do you think that cam would be cut 112 and maybe put in at 110?

Thanks

The TSP 228R was the one I was looking at, what were the "tuning issues" and did it all work out?

I'm looking at pretty much the exact same setup, ported heads and a 228/232....I'd be thrilled if I got a slick idle, good drivability and your hp/tq!!!!!
