Default Oil Leak

Just bought my first vette, a 2000 with 12k miles Great until I noticed an oil leak.

Some have had a similair problem but no solution yet:

Oil leaking from the upper oil pan joint where it meets the block (passenger side) and what I'm calling the bell housing. Oil is even on the bottom of the starter (which is higher than the oil that leaks onto the side of the pan) and must splatter back onto the exhaust. The bottom of the pan gets covered with oil but not enough oil to drip on the ground when parked. I cleaned it off, and let the car idle for about 10 minutes and no leak. Drove the car for 5 miles, put it back on the lift and oil seems to be coming from joint between the rear housing and where the oil pan (upper oil pan joint) meets the block. I ruled out the oil pressure sensor which seems to be a common problem. My oil level was high (which others reported coincided with their problem) but I lowered it and it still leaks.

I don't know if its a rear seal, rear cover gasket leak, gasket leak on the cover below the intake or somethinng else.

I hate to take everything apart:
1. without knowing exactly where its leaking from, but I may have no other alternative.
2. that its a common problem and starts to leak 6 months later.

Did anyone ever solve your problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated

My 2004 Z06 was leaking from that same spot, where the upper oil pan meets the block and the back cover. I left my oil level a little below the full mark the next time I changed oil, and it quit.

I guess the only fix would be to take it all apart and make sure you get a good sealant in the corner where the three parts come together. It looks like the factory uses a sealer that hardens, but maybe a semi-hardening sealer would work better.
