Default Front tire wear problem? Help....

I have 28000 miles on my 01 Z....Front tires are factory....Some time ago i bought a full set of rims and new tires for the car..Last night i changed them and found the drivers front was wore to the threads on the inside of the tire!!!! To look at the tire while on the car, it still appeared to have maybe 5000 miles till the wear bars where level....The car has always felt perfect on the highway at all speeds, what would cause this???

Z06 alignments are fairly aggressive for the street, running a decent amount of negative camber. This causes the insides of the tire to wear, although if you got 28000 miles on a set of tires that's pretty good.

If you've never had it done, I'd recommend getting an alignment done in the near future. Take the time to look around and find a good shop; it took me five tries before I found someone that was good (and he just retired, drat!).

If you don't track or autocross your car, then just have the alignment set to normal C5 settings. This will even out your tire wear.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I have never touched the alignment, would it not still be set stock from factory?? Or, possibly out due to 28000 miles of useage?

The alignment done at the factory is not the best in the world, to start with. Unless you hit something, I doubt it would have changed, and as I stated earlier, 28000 miles isn't too bad for a set of tires.

As I also stated, the Z06 alignment is more aggressive than normal for the stock C5. This will cause the inside shoulder of the tire to wear faster than normal.

Have a good one,
Mike

i just had the same problem my friend. I still have the stock tires and they have 30k plus on them. back ones are still in good shape, but my front ones just desinigrated on the outside and inside tread. center was fine. my car dosnt pull to the left or right and has no vibration. Its going to the dealer today actually. They told me the suspension is very sensitive and the alignment goes out quite easily. I spoke with a guy that was at the dealer the same time as me. He told me he gets an alignment 3 times a year, but he races it. Either way, it sucks because this is just a big cost for nothing.

Well, sounds like a normal thing to me...I will see if the fronts will mount on the rear, and if so, will finish them off with 750+ hp

They'll mount up. And I predict they'll be more than enough to stand up to your meager setup for, oh, wellllll,
.
.
.
.
.
3 seconds?

And, to the poster that had both the inner and outer edges of the front tires, that's an indication of low tire pressure. It may also be something to do with the runflat tires, as I run my fronts at around 28 cold and have good wear patterns.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
