Default Opening Headlight motor gearbox

I'm following instructions from another post covering the replacement of the nylon gears with brass replacements.

I get to the part about opening the gearbox and I find that my Headlight Motor Gearbox does not have the cover with the 3 screws. It looks to me that the gearbox is permanently sealed.

Any suggestions or a link to a post covering this problem.

The gear housing on the later years must be cut open and then put back together with epoxy. Do a search, as there is a supporting vendor that sells the brass replacement gears with an epoxy kit included.

the epoxy won't hold for long. i used alternative methods to keep the lids on my motors.

Try this link, he explains about the epoxy and has added a piece to hold it together even if the new epoxy fails.

I replaced my gears about a year ago before anyone brought up the issue of the epoxy not holding... make sure you install the brace or take other measures to reinforce the epoxy because it definitely *will* fall off

Just did mine last month. As per the instructions, you'll need to pry the cover off by breaking the glued seal. Once you get a small screwdriver into the seam and get it to start spreading it will come apart fairly easily.

And as per the instructions, the cover will be clamped with a metal brace after epoxying it to prevent it from opening after the repair.
