FWIW, I got OEM gears off e-bay for something like $12 each. Decided since the first OEMs lasted at least three years (as long as I've had the car), no need to spend the $$ on the brass gears. I did a search on ebay for 'corvete headlight gears' and had two or three options.

But did it come with the new metal bracket that prevents the housing from opening up after the repair?
The brass gear kit will fix it once and for all for $80 - well worth the cost of doing it right IMHO.
I found a great set today on Ebay for $40 plus 7 in shipping. Will let you know how it turns out since I am going to take a crack at it when it arrives. Dealer wants $500+ and will only change the whole assembly. BS.
This is the title I found when I searched. "97-04 C5 Corvette headlight motor rebuild kit-improved! "
I have to say that the brass kit I got from Rodney Dickman was one of the most painless installs I have ever done on a car. The instructions were clear and complete. The parts were excellent and it was only a matter of 6 bolts and 3 screws as far as disassembly/re-install. The dealer wanted 2 hours labor and to exchange the entire housing for about 500+ dollars. The rebuild kit cost 47 bucks (including shipping) and took me about 25 minutes to complete.
I am very happy with the brass gear now and am considering buying a back up kit for when the right headlight does the same thing.
Only thing I am pissed over is that I paid $60 for the dealer to tell me what I already knew and nothing else.
"It's broke..." $30 a word...almost as bad as attorney fees....
I did mine just today. Still waiting for the glue to cure (sealed motor)
One thing I did learn is that a lot of guys are right, only about one quarter of the gear is acutally used so you can just pull it out and turn it to the opposite side and re-install. Should work fine for a few years. Good idea if you want to save some money.
I got the brass gears from Rodney Dickman. $94.00 shipped for two kits. Very good instructions included. Or course I haven't turned on my lights yet!!!!
